Work

A short look at the journey that shaped my path, from boarding school to the working world.

2002 to 2006

High School

My journey began when I was thirteen, when I enrolled at Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Integrasi Rawang, a boarding school in the quiet town of Rawang, Selangor.

Rawang was a small and sleepy place at the time. There was not much happening in town, and our monthly outing to KFC was often one of the simple things everyone looked forward to.

Living in a boarding school meant learning independence early. The routines were structured, the study hours were long, and friendships formed quickly when everyone was away from home.

I was a strong student throughout those years. In Form Four and Form Five, I pursued the religious stream, which added another dimension to my studies and shaped the way I think about learning, discipline, and perspective.

Looking back, those years were simple but formative. The quiet town, the rhythm of boarding school life, and the friendships built there laid an important foundation for everything that followed.

2007 to 2011

University

After boarding school, I continued my studies at Curtin University Sarawak in Miri, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology.

University life was very different from the structured environment of boarding school. For the first time I had to manage my own time and responsibilities, which was an adjustment at the beginning but an important step toward independence.

When I first arrived in 2007, Miri was a quiet town and much smaller than it is today. Studying there provided a calm environment to focus on learning and adapting to university life.

Those years marked the transition from student life into preparing for the professional world.

2012 to 2021

Onyx Engineering

I began my career at Onyx Engineering as a Geoscientist specializing in core analysis, working with rock samples recovered from wells to study reservoir properties.

Over time my role expanded beyond technical work. I became involved in project coordination, bid submissions, and client engagement, gradually moving closer to the commercial side of the business.

Later, I was given the opportunity to lead the Reservoir Characterization and Laboratory department, managing a team of fifteen people and overseeing laboratory operations and project delivery.

Toward the later part of my time at Onyx, I transitioned into business intelligence and analytics, working with data to support management decisions and business planning.

Those years provided a wide range of experience, from technical geology and laboratory work to leadership and business analysis.

2022 to Present

Expro

In 2022, I joined Expro, continuing my journey in the oil and gas industry from a business and commercial perspective.

My role focuses on business development and tender coordination, supporting the preparation of proposals, market surveys, and client submissions across multiple product lines. The work involves close coordination with technical teams, operations, finance, and management to ensure each submission aligns with both operational capability and commercial strategy.

I also work with data and reporting tools to track opportunities, monitor revenue outlooks, and provide visibility on the company’s business activities in Malaysia.

The role brings together many of the experiences built earlier in my career, combining technical understanding, data analysis, and business coordination to support the company’s growth.

Today

Looking Back

From boarding school to university, and from technical laboratory work to business development, the journey has taken many unexpected turns.

Each stage brought different lessons, and together they shaped the path I continue to follow today.
